I learned early that to be happy in life you have to do what you love. Of course I too fell slavery to the corporate system that teaches us you have to go to school, get an education, then go work for a corporation, retire, and die….because this is how life is supposed to work. NO….this could not be FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH.
Shortly after getting out of high school I went to a technical college for custom car building (which I have a huge passion for). After spending 5 months in school I decided my time was more valuable than what the typical educational system had to teach so after a few months I bought a trailer and moved myself back to Washington State (home). I quickly realized that the skills I had gained in school were going to land me a $15/hour job, which is accepted in the real world and considered “average.” Yet nothing I have ever done or wanted to do has been thought of from a realistic stand point. You see, in order to achieve greatness and make a difference in society you must do extraordinary things; which are not done by being average. You can keep average!
I found myself back in Washington living in my mom’s basement. I spent about 3 months planning and really thinking about my goals. I have to say, looking back it is amazing when you chase after your dreams how elevated your mindset becomes; the way you view situations completely changes. It was February 2013 and I was 19 years old. I had decided to look for a job on Craigslist and found an ad for an automotive sales consultant. I thought to myself, “well I love cars, I know how to work on them, and I know I can sell them.” The next day I had an interview so I put on my best clothes (didn’t have a suit) and went to the dealership. I felt like I interviewed decently but I was told, “get a haircut, wear a suit, come back and see us and maybe we will hire you.” I showed up the next day in a suit and tie as well as a fresh haircut that had revealed my ears for the first time in a few years. As I stood in the doorway of the manager’s office, waiting for him to acknowledge my presence, he finally looked up at me with a confused look and said, “can I help you?” To which I replied, “yes I am Ben Oberg, you told me that you would hire me if I came back with a haircut and wore a suit.” With a shocked look on his face he stated that I had the job.
This began my sales career where I learned how to interact with people, learn business, and become a professional sales consultant. The first year I made $43,000, the second year I made $86,000, and at the age of 21 I had my first six figure year and had bought my own house. By year two I was promoted to internet sales where I became very good at building emails, working the phone, and learning social media. Shortly after I was told there would be an opportunity for me to learn finance which I happily accepted. During the second year at the dealership we hired this crazy guy named Eryn Hubbard who would later become the most influential mentor I have ever had in my life. It was towards the end of the second year when I started opening my eyes up to my goals, to what I really wanted in life. I realized that the job I was at was not giving me what I truly wanted. My goals were, and are huge; become one of the world’s best motivational speakers, help people to achieve their dreams and belief in themselves, develop my own luxury brand, build custom super cars from the ground up, have many homes, create residual income, have a huge collection of cars, travel all over the place, and most importantly show the world that anything is possible. So I started writing and planning everything like I always had done since I was a little kid. On November 7th of 2015 my life changed. I had spent the last 2 and a half years in the car business; honing my craft into a razor sharp double-edged sword. If I had not been blessed with this opportunity, I would not be here to write this. I had learned and retained more information in the arena of life than any $40K college degree could have taught me. On November 7th, 2015 I launched my first business. And so the grind began.
I had already been working 52+ hours per week. This next year would consist of 100+ hour work weeks, days on end of staying up until 3 am, working on my dream. I would spend hours in my shop working on my metal fabrication skills, building my products, and then putting them on the website that I was building from scratch. 4 months went by and I remember going in to file my taxes and I was asked how much money I had made for my business. I stated that I had not made anything yet, which earned me a confused look as if he thought I was crazy…which I am. What no one knew; including myself, was that my business would take off in the next few months. I would end up making over $20,000 in the next 6 months while still working full time at the dealership.
Since day 1 of starting my first business I started planning my escape. How was I going to get out of the corporate world? I was told by multiple people to just be content, told that I was crazy. They said, “you are practically a kid and you are making six figures, you should be happy.” It wasn’t the money though, it was the fact that I knew what my life’s purpose was, I knew what my goals were, I knew what my dreams were, and I knew that there was no benefit to waiting. By early summer of 2016 while travelling back to New York, I found myself in the Minneapolis airport at 3 a.m, waiting for my next flight with plenty of time to plan. I had decided that I was going to get out and that I would find a way to make it. On paper, it didn’t make sense, but neither did the rest of my goals when people saw them. On August 13th of 2016 I took the jump; I quit working full time. Here’s what happened…
As a result of chasing my dreams I continued to elevate my metal fabrication business, and out of necessity I became more resourceful and more creative. By October 14th of 2016 (specifically 12:15 a.m. as I am writing this) I had invented a social media application, become an Instagram marketing expert, professional blogger, motivational guru, and had opened the doors to my luxury brand. The sleepless nights spent over the last 341 days of not hanging out with friends and simply focusing on creating success had started to pay off. The 16 hour work days of learning how to blog, build websites, become a social media influencer, make/edit videos, build email lists, affiliate marketing, and develop multiple streams of residual income were starting to make sense. You see, I had made a decision a long time ago within myself that no matter what happens, I am going to win. I am going to win for myself, I am going to win for my family and friends, and for the people of this world. I must accomplish my dreams on a massive scale so I can help others to do the same. I must acquire every skill I can and learn everything I can to help society and make my contribution to life.
I decided to study harder. I looked at the people who already had the life that I wanted and were the best at what I wanted to do. I started taking notes, reading, watching “how-to” videos, and learning. The residual income started to build, the networking grew, I started meeting other entrepreneurs who wanted to learn what I had to teach, and I started building my team (Millionaire Mafia).
I can’t wait for what happens next. I can’t tell you when I will be there, all I can tell you is that I know I am going there and it will be full of fast cars, amazing travels, nice houses, motivating people, making a difference in society, and helping every single person that I can while I am here!
Thank you for reading and I will see you at the top.
